If you think you've missed our opening hours give us
a call on (09)6340447 We're
usually still at work around 6.30pm
How
long have you guys been around for?
Rockit has been around since 1977!!
Do
you sell gear?
Yes we do! if you
don't mind waiting a bit you can get gear cheap as!
We also custom make leads
Do
you have Finance available?
Yes we do! We use
Flexirent. Its super easy to apply for, and can be preapproved
over the phone! We've already provided finance for a
number of individuals and churches. Lease To Own and
Operating Lease options available!
Some
of your gear is really expensive :(
If you can find it cheaper, let us know! We'll try
to beat it. We prefer to sell quality gear. Not
cheap no name imports. If it doesn't survive our
hire dept, we don't like to sell it. Only exception
is if the customer specifically requests it or can't
afford better. We try to fit the best gear possible
for your budget. We will provide
you with all the knowledge you need so you can make
an informed decision.
We
like to see customers drive away waving. Not driving
away flipping us the bird!
What
sort of equipment do you rent out?
We have everything from small stand alone speaker systems
for corporate events. Battery powered speakers for weddings
in the middle of a park. Massive sound systems for bands
and raves.
We also do lighting for small and big events. From mirror
balls, scanners, to full colour lasers and disco lights.
Do
you do special rates for Schools and Churches?
We sure do!
What
do i need in order to hire gear?
Current New Zealand drives license or passport. If you
don't have either of these then you need to bring someone
along with you who does. They will become the hiree
and thus, responsible for the gear.
What
else do i need to know when hiring equipment?
There is a bond on most hires. This ranges from $100,
to 5% of the equipment value. Most of the time a swipe
of the credit card will do, but it must be the hirees
credit card.
Equipment must be returned in the condition it went
out in. If its just the usual wear and tear, we'll obviously
let that pass, but you'll be charged for any damages.
This also includes improper handling/packaging of our
multicore snakes.
If you return the equipment back dirty, you will be
charged a cleaning fee or we'll keep your bond.
If noise control takes the equipment you will still
be charged everyday it's out of the shop. Remember you're
getting charged for the time the gear it is out of the
shop, not time used.
Does
your insurance cover the equipment when i rent it out?
No it doesn't. If there are damages you'll have to pay
for the repairs. If the gear is lost or stolen you will
have to pay for the replacement cost. Make sure you
inform your own insurance company when you are hiring
gear to be covered.
Do
you deliver?
We sure do! Let us know as soon as possible!
How
much do you charge to deliver?
It depends on the amount of gear you are taking, and
the distance it needs to be transported. If its just
up the road for small speaker system, we can usually
deliver it for a small fee. If there is plenty of gear
and the destination is quite far, the price might be
around the $100 mark. Call us for a better idea on how
much its going to cost. If it's to expensive, and you'd
rather make a couple of trips to transport the gear
yourself, we usually don't mind waiting :)
I
can't get the system running!
Think about how the sound is flowing~~. Source(Microphone,
CD Player, Laptop, iPod) to Pre-amp(mixer)
to Amp(HP400,
HP600 etc) to speakers.
You'd connect the signal to the mixer, using one of
the line ins or the mic inputs. Then you'll plug the
output of the mixer to the input of the amplifier using
signal leads like, RCA to Jacks or Jack to Jack leads(more
flexible than speaker lead). Then lastly you'll
plug the output of the amplifier to the input on the
speakers using speaker lead.(Feels like extension
lead).
If
you are still having trouble give us a call. Our cell
phones are on all the time. If you can't get us on our
cell phones, leave a message and call us at the shop.
If you STILL can't get hold of us(which is really rare)
Note down the problem and let us know. But keep trying
us if you can't get us the first time. The cell details
and shop details are written on the top of all our invoices.
I
keep getting feedback when i try to use the mics!!
Make sure the gain is wound down on the mixer, It's
usually at the top of most mixers, on the PA150's and
the PA300's its above the Volume knob. If you are still
getting feedback issues make sure you don't have the
mics faceing the speakers.
If you didn't hire or own an EQ and you've done the
above already. Think about what the feedback sounds
like? Does it sound low? Or high pitched? If its high,
try reducing the hi frequencies a bit on the tone control
for that channel. If it sounds low, try reducing the
low to mid-bass frequencies on the tone control for
that channel.
Mics
which are prone to feedback are lapel mics, or wireless
mics with the gain wound up on the transmitter or reciever.
Cheap mics can also cause feedback in some cases.
Do
you have really long mic leads so i can have the sound
desk far away?
How far away are you running the leads? Best option
is to use a snake. That way you run only one lead to
the stage. Then you can plug in your mics and instruments
into the snake, giving you more lead to work with on
stage! Its also easier to hide the cable and prevent
people from tripping over it.
The
system doesn't sound right...
All gear is tested before it leaves the shop. If its
sounds even a bit off we do not hire it out and offer
a better alternative for the same price. If you
think someone has messed around with the gear do the
following. Make sure all the amps are on, and the dails
wound up to the desired level. Make sure all the volume
dials/faders are down on the mixer. Gain controls are
down. Tone controls are set to 12 o'clock. Fx dials
are down. Aux/Monitor dials are down. EQ faders are
all set in the middle. This effectively starts you off
at Zero.
If you are using a crossover, have you set the crossover
frequency correctly? Have you made sure the switches
are set to the system you are using? For example, a
2 way system(tops and subs) has the 2WAY switch activated.
If you have a 3 Way system(tops, mids, subs) you have
the 3WAY switch active. Also make sure the polarity
switches are set the right way.
If
you still can't get it sorted let us know!
